Downloading updates |
A software update is a program that you download to your hard drive for
installation. "Downloading" simply means that you are transferring
the program from its location on the Web to your own computer system.
It is important to save the downloaded update to a convenient, specific
place on your hard drive. In that respect, see the help document entitled
Creating a "Download" folder directly on
your Windows desktop.
There are three possible ways to access the DT Tax and Accounting download section:
-
From the DT Tax and Accounting Web site.
-
From the DT Max program, select DT Max on the Web from the
Help menu, and then click Downloads.
-
Alternatively, simply click here.
Any of the options above will take you to the section where our latest versions
of DT Max are available for downloading.
When you are ready to download an update, follow the steps below:
-
Click the underlined link for the version you wish to download.
-
A dialogue box will appear prompting you to enter your username
and password:
(Note that these two pieces of information can be found in your current
version of DT Max by selecting About DT Max...
from the Help menu.)
Click OK.
-
If you get a message asking whether you would like to run the file or save
it, choose to save the file.
-
When a dialogue box labeled "Download" or "Save as"
appears, look for a field called "Save in" or "Destination".
The entry made in this field determines where your file will be saved on your
hard drive.
-
Click the little arrow next to this field to see the list of various items
and folders currently on your computer's hard drive. If you don't
see the folder into which you want to download a DT Max update, navigate through
this list to find it.
Remember the hint above regarding the convenient desktop
download folder.
Double-click the folder name that you want to select. It should now appear in
the "Save in" or "Destination" field. If you have created
the "Download" folder on your desktop, this entry should be "Download".
Click the "Save" button to begin downloading the update file to
your hard drive, where it will be saved.
-
Once the file is fully downloaded, go to the location where you have
saved it and double-click its filename (it should be the "Download" folder
on your desktop). Instructions will appear for you to follow, depending on which
version you have downloaded.
